Friends it’s June and the Florida home renovation has begun! As I last mentioned the house we bought in florida and shared some remodeling ideas, i mentioned the first thing i did wanted was to cover the dark blue walls with fresh white paint!
Enter Color Magnolia Home by Joanna Gaines®. When we bought the house, the previous owner had painted the living room with a navy blue accent wall, a nice color but not my style for this room.
I crave crisp white walls in common spaces, especially ones that flow from room to room. A white or neutral background lets furniture, art, plants, and accents shine. I was able to complete this Makeover in a single day!
I would grab fabric swatches and a pattern in the morning, pick the perfect color, and paint one at a time middle of the day. Before painting I prepared the room by removing and protecting electrical panels Floor covering with tarpaulin. After two coats of paint I was done in the evening. I changed it the next morning new furniture and accents in place. A simple 24-hour makeover!
Color Magnolia Home by Joanna Gaines® offers 150 colors to choose from. I went straight to neutral Zone and went through her choices of white guys. I hesitated between “Silos White” and “Pearly Cotton”. chose the latter as it was closer in hue to the surrounding walls.
‘Pearly Cotton’ is described as a bleached beige that is just right. It also has hints of vanilla and definitely leans more towards beige than taupe. It’s a nice warm white that goes perfectly with my living room.
I was excited to learn more about the Magnolia Home by Joanna Gaines® color line KILZ® because I had never worked with that brand before. The paint includes a primer that saves a step! Instead of priming earlier and then covering the walls with two coats of paint, priming is no longer necessary. I chose the matte gloss for a soft powdery finish.
The Magnolia Home by Joanna Gaines® color line from KILZ® covered most of the navy blue in the first coat, about 90%. To achieve even coverage I added a second coat of Pearly Cotton.
What I love about this color is the good coverage and there is no smell. After an afternoon of painting After two coats of paint, I didn’t have to open windows or wait for paint fumes to clear. I could switch the living room the next day.
I replaced the previous owner’s rug, coffee table, end table, and removed the faux fireplace. in the In its place, I added a modern sideboard, my own art print, and a few accessories that I bought locally.
You will find the Magnolia Home by Joanna Gaines® color line by KILZ® across the USA these stores. I found mine at my local Ace Hardware, most of them carry this brand and they also have samples and swatches to test before committing to a color and shine.
